Ben Ainslie bygger Americas Cup bas i Portsmouth!
Sir Ben Ainslie och hans Ben Ainslie Racing är en av utmanarna till Americas Cup och nu får man stöd av den brittiska staten för att bygga upp en bas i Portsmouth. Beslutet att stötta den brittiska satsningen tog på absolut högsta nivå på 10 Downing Street med premiärminister David Cameron.
Sjävlklart är det inte bara äran att vinna Americas Cup som hägrar för den brittiska regeringen när man satsar 7,5 miljoner pund. David Cameron ser även andra goda effekter för Portsmouth.

Till att börja med kommer basen att ha 90 anställda. Båtarna kommer att designas och byggas på plats, man kommer även att ha träningsanläggning och i regattacenter.
Ben Ainslie säger att Portsmouth är en ideal plats att anordna seglingstävlingar.
“Portsmouth has a great maritime heritage and we felt it was a natural home for the team’s permanent base in the UK. There is excellent access to the water for the team’s training and to host future America’s Cup events, with fantastic spectator viewpoints.
We hope through our journey to bring the Cup home to Britain we will inspire more young people to get involved in the sport, along with supporting the growth of the marine sector in the Solent area to match the country’s F1 innovation hub.” /Sir Ben Ainslie
