EL QUEMAO, Canary Islands - Eric Rebiere (FRA), first French surfer ever to qualify for the ASP World Tour where he spent a year in 2003, now resides in the Canary Islands a.k.a the European Hawaii where some of the world's best waves can be found. Rebiere, who is enjoying a break from the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) after shooting the solid swells of December in Hawaii, has been on tour for a decade using his powerful carving attacks to try and get back amongst the elite but the man would never miss out the shallow barrels of El Quemao whenever his schedule allows it.

"This happened on New Year's day, the same day we lost one of our best mates Fula. El Quemao started firing with the right direction and size and I got some sick barrels for a couple of hours."

"The Canary Islands usually get amazing barrels at this time of the year and to live there gives you so many options to score big. The island of Lanzarote where the ASP WQS 6-Star Prime event runs every year, offers such a variety of locations but you better know what you are doing because it gets really tricky when the swell is pumping."

Rebiere a.k.a Rebrix, who will turn 30 this year, remains an example for most of the up and coming ASP competitors from Europe and his big surf experience from Oahu's Waimea Bay to the Canary Islands has made him a respected and much appreciated surfer on tour.

After losing his sponsor in 2006, Rebrix has found new support from the fashion surf brand Insight along with Nixon and the man should be back on the Grind when the big events get underway with Margaret River's ASP WQS 6-Star Prime targeted for March.

"IN LOVING MEMORY OF DAVID ENFANTE a.k.a FULA"
