Kevin Pritchard drops us a line explaining his new film project and uploads a small teaser!

It would seem that to really make it as a top professional windsurfer these days you have to have, at the very least, a movie part, if not an entire video devoted to yourself. The legend Robby Naish (Naish, Naish) had 'RIP', former wave world champion Jason Polakow (JP, NeilPryde) had 'it's about time', Britain's Robby Swift (JP, NeilPryde) had K89, and more recently the stars of the PWA have shown off their skills in 'Four Dimensions' and 'The Windsurfing Movie II'.

However, one serious competitor has been dodging the big screen for over 20 years now, but that's all about to change. Former overall world champion, Kevin Pritchard (Starboard, Gaastra, Dakine) has just released a teaser of his latest project, KP DAYS. Check it out by following this link HERE.

We quizzed the fierce competitor, Maui ripper, and genuine nice guy about his sudden decision to stand out and grab his fair share of the limelight.

PWA: After so many years, why did you decide that now was the right time to do a video?

KP: "Pretty much 'cause I've always dreamed about doing a movie, just no one ever wanted to do one on me! I'm well into the video thing right now, and I met this German who came over to Maui and we began working together. We started filming everything. We had cable cams, helicopters, dollies, cranes, sliders, all totally nerd style hand made from junk. I would go outside and think of some crazy idea, and Johannass (spelt wrong on purpose), would be like, ok lets try it. I was like, really. We sent my brand new 7D on a rope across a gulch through some trees on a slim shady rope and a couple of pulleys. Johanass was blown away at first when I sent $3000 dollars in camera gear flying across the gulch. We had so much fun doing nerd stuff with the cameras, we were like, lets do a movie. And that is how it came about."

PWA: Recently we've seen you getting creative behind the camera, what does it feel like to be on the other side of the lens again?

KP: "I love being on that side of the lens. I've never been that great on camera, so for me I love getting all crazy artistic ideas and going for it. If we get this movie some sponsorship, the POV angles are going to be insane, because there are pretty few cameramen who can windsurf the way i do, and so I want people to be able to see things from my view through my eyes. I want to take the viewer and make them feel like they are right there, throwing a bottom turn so hard they can hear the water droplets shedding off the board!"

PWA: Are you going to lend a hand in the editing suite with the after effects?

KP: "A little bit, but Johanass is the man on the editing. He makes my stuff look so bad, and he's such a perfectionist that he never wants to let anything out of the bag that isn't perfect. So, I'll probably leave most of that to him."

PWA: When can we expect to see the full length, cinema edition?

KP: "We're looking into sponsorship this year. When we started most of the companies had already spent their budgets, so we needed to wait 'til now when most of their budgets for next year were open. When we get the sponsorship, you'll have a date."

PWA: What's next for KP?

KP: "Well, the future is wide open right now. 'Follow your dreams and the rest will come'. I've been living that motto for almost 20 years now and it's worked out pretty well so far. We'll see…"
