Ben Ainslie and the British crew of TeamOrigin 1851 won the second TP52 race of the day at the Caja Mediterráneo Region of Murcia Trophy to take the overall lead by a one point ahead of Matador (ARG).

TeamOrigin (GBR) capitalised on the first beat after they broke free of a difficult start when most of the fleet fought for the key position at the committee boat end of the start line. Ainslie drove TeamOrigin clear in the first few seconds and they were quickly able to dictate terms to the pursuing pack.

Finishing fourth Matador (ARG) lie second overall with Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL) third. Significantly, the Kiwi team opened a further eight points on their nearest title rivals Quantum Racing (USA), whilst the strong opening day of TeamOrigin closes them to within 3.5 points of Artemis (SWE) who are third overall.
