Billabong Pro Maui Competition Off, Possible Start Tomorrow

HONOLUA BAY, Hawaii (Tuesday, December 9, 2008) – Small surf continued to prevent the Billabong Pro Maui from commencing again today, but a projected spike is swell later today could see the final event of the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour on as early as tomorrow.

“We woke up this morning and there wasn’t really much surf on offer at the venue,” Brooke Farris, ASP Women’s World Tour Manager, said. “We went on hold for a few hours, but nothing manifested so we expect to be back tomorrow morning at 7am for a possible 8am start.”

While the ASP Women’s World Title was collected by newly-crowned two-time ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 20, last week on the North Shore, the Billabong Pro Maui will still decide the winner of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing (an ASP Specialty Series) as well as prove paramount to surfers looking requalify for the 2008 ASP Dream Tour.

Event organizers will convene tomorrow at 7am tomorrow morning for a possible 8am start.

The waiting period for the Billabong Pro Maui will run through December 20, 2008.
