FLORIANOPOLIS, Santa Catarina/Brazil - In another solid day of surf in Brazil, Dayyan Neve (AUS) had the best performance at the Maresia Surf International in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina. Neve took the scoring records for the competition, 9.0 in best wave of event and with 16.83 points. With very hard surfing conditions he stole the show in the Round of 96.

"The waves was very good for me. Strong winds, but I some good waves, starting with a good win in my heat," said Dayyan Neve. "I'm from Manly Beach and the waves there are so similar, so I'm used to surfing conditions like that."

The Maresia Surf International title defender, Brazilian Gabriel Medina, who became the youngest surfer to win one WQS event with 15 years of age in last year, at 16 has lived the climate to be the champion of the important event from ASP World Tour. He finish in second in the heat won by Rudy Palmboom (ZAF).

"The heat was very hard. It has a very strong currents and I'm glad to find a wave for me saving. So much wind, current very hard, very difficult surfing, pretty hard, but the most important is keep myself live in the competition" said Gabriel Medina. In the round of 48 he defending title in a very hard heat against the new record breaker, Dayyan Neve, Marco Polo (BRA) of the world elite and Shaun Ward (USA).

The seeding number 1 of the Maresia International, brazilian Jadson Andre, 4th place ASP World Ranking, got the second spot in the round of 48 surfers with a wave surfed in the last seconds of heat won by Robson Santos (BRA).

"It's very difficult for me to stay here. I'm not in a good moment of my life and actually want go back home to stay with my family," said Jadson Andre. "My grandmother passed away on Wednesday, was a very important person in my life, so I did not think of classified me. I think it was instinct surfing that last wave. I'll see what I will do now."
