DEE WHY, Sydney / Australia - Surfing has been called off for the second day in a row at event no.4 of the ASP Women's World Tour, the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic in Sydney, Australia today.

With a decreasing 1-2ft (0.5m) ENE swell lapping Dee Why beach, event director Layne Beachley opted to put the fifth-annual event on hold for consecutive days.

ASP Head Judge David Shipley said calling a lay day was a good decision.

"It's super clean, but smaller than yesterday so a day's surfing action wasn't really an option," he said. "Hopefully conditions will improve in the next few days."

Contest organisers are hopeful in a spike in swell by the end of the weekend, which could see competition completed on Monday.

When competition resumes, world no.8 Silvana Lima (BRA), 25, will square off against world no.14 Amee Donohoe (AUS), 29, in the opening heat of Round 3.

Three-time ASP Women's World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 22, will feature in the round's fourth heat. There she'll take on event wildcard winner Laura Enever (AUS), 18.

Contest organisers will meet at 7.00am tomorrow morning to make a call whether they'll push through to Round 3.
