THE 4TH EDITION of the Monsoon Cup
will be known to competitive sailors
around the world for its obvious
importance as the final stop on the nine-stage
2008 World Match Racing Tour.
Some of the top talent in the world of sailing
are here to try and claim the largest share they
can of the US$295,000 prize money purse,
and for three teams – reigning
World Champion Ian Williams (GBR) and
his Bahrain Team Pindar, Sebastian Col
(FRA) and his French Match Racing Team/KChallenge
and Mathieu Richard (FRA) and
his French Match Racing Team/Team French
Spirit – the chance to also claim the title 2008
ISAF Match Racing World Champion.

Because of their substantial lead in points
earned at previous Tour events, the overall
winner’s crown lies among one of these three
teams, and the winner will have also had to

get past a considerable array of talent to win
the event. Seven other teams from the Tour
leaderboard will be here to fight for the
Monsoon Cup itself along with two teams that
will qualify into the event from the Malaysian
and Asian Match Racing Championships
held the week prior to the main attraction.
With such a pool of sailing skill the action off
the Ri-Yaz Heritage Resort & Spa and Marina
in Terengganu promises to be intense indeed.
